Full Name: Tanoai Tasi ae afe Reed
Date of Birth: February 10, 1974 Place of Birth: Honolulu, Hawaii Nationality: Samoan and Norwegian About Family: I have been married for 9 years to my wonderful wife, Suzanne Wailani Michiko Reed. She works in the movie industry as a stunt woman and is also a personal trainer. Together, we have an 8 year old son, Samson Tamasese Iosefa Reed. My father's name is Leroy and my mother is Denise. Childhood Highlights: I was raised by my Grandmother Vaita'I on the North Shore of Oahu. I loved spear fishing and hanging out at the beach with my friends. I graduated from Kahuku High School where I played football and Judo. I was given the title of Chief Tasi ae afe by the other Chiefs in my family. I attended the University of Hawaii on a football scholarship. Greatest Accomplishment to Date: Marrying my wife Sue and having our son Samson. NOTHING beats the feeling of having your own family. On his career as a Stuntman: My father hooked me a job working on the Kevin Costner movie, "Waterworld" as a laborer. I quickly made friends with the stunt crew and they offered to help me get my SAG card. I was given an opportunity to get in front of the camera and from that day on, I knew that's what I wanted to do. In 5 years: I see myself starring in bigger roles, still an American Gladiator and Coordinating action movies. I've also started to look into business ventures outside of the entertainment industry to benefit my family. In 5 years, I'd like to see these businesses flourish and stand on their own. On American Gladiators changing his life: American Gladiators has opened a huge door for me as far as exposure goes. I see more roles with more face time coming my way. This is a huge step for my career! People are starting to recognize me as Toa and I have a lot of requests for interviews, autographs and appearances. It's surreal to me because I still don't realize how big the character is or how big it can become. I have been able to meet some great people who are helping me with my career. It's gotten to the point where I need to have a publicist, an agent, a manager, and a talent attorney on my team. I feel so much love and support from so many people! Tanoai's heroes and major influences: I have to be thankful to the Lord, for always being there for me when nobody else was. And to my family for giving me a reason to strive to be successful in all I do. I am grateful to my friends for holding me up and supporting me whenever I needed it. I also have to thank Dwayne for his leading example of how to be a true star by his humbleness and love of people. On his Tattoos: People ask me all the time about my tattoos and the meanings behind them. My tattoos are made up of traditional Polynesian patterns that create a map of my life: the past, present, and future. The biggest misconception people make about Tanoai: It amazes me that because I work in the Hollywood film industry people assume that it's changed me and think that I live the "Hollywood Star" life. Nothing could be further from the truth. I live in a quiet, suburban neighborhood surrounded by family. I am still the same "local" boy from Laie, Hawaii who is proud of his culture, close to his roots and lives through the spirit of aloha. That will never change. If anything, living in LA and being around people who live in the fast lane has really kept me grounded in who I am and what's important to me. Go Back
